CFS Cadet Corner / Re: what is going on with cadets?
« on: November 24, 2005, 02:29:41 PM »
The cadet numbers are growing all the time so i think HQ needs to put way more money and time into them because we are all struggling for crews and the more keen they stay the more likely they are to step up to firefighters later.

I'm with you CFS_firey, but you'll find most of the people that bag the mets have tried to get in the mets and failed or are unable to get along with them at a scene. I do believe though that some people take the whole striving to be their best thing just a little too far.

ALL Rescue / Re: Disc Cutter
« on: November 22, 2005, 08:11:02 AM »
I was thinking they would be more useful in things like shed fires or factory fires, c.f.s doesn't seem to have much salvage and support equipment unlike the c.f.a who have alot of salvage appliances with things like B.A cylinders, lighting, specialist venting and overhaul equipment, shelters and food etc on board.

I was just wondering if there are any C.F.S brigades with disc cutters? Every M.F.S rescue truck has one and they probably would be useful in some areas.

Yes i have also heard that but i have also heard that the new system won't be in place for a few years so there should be no reason as to why you can't get you're SFEC's upgraded off the old system.

Alway's an excuse not to do things like a professional service.

That's right roger, I have also heard that M.F.S will be getting rid of K codes themselves.

Ozfire,

Don't worry the day will come when pressures on the volunteers and oco's will be so great that the volunteers and oco's will stop working and the other paid staff won't know what to do with themselves.
After all it is the volunteers and oco's that keep the rest of them in a job.

My opinion is they should only be used by E.M.A brigades who operate in M.F.S area alot and only if those people keep on doing the appropriate training. One issue is that we all need to know the basic's incase they talk to us with K - codes, because when the heat is on you don't want to be asking someone 5 times what they said in plain english.

Yeah i agree theres an awful lot of argueing for someone that doesn't agree with argueing on the internet.

Just chill out theres no harm in people winging on this forum, they may as well coz no-one else is going to listen to them.

Yes i've taken details of a car before and he got a big surprise about 10 minutes later when the police officer on the scene paid him a visit and gave him a fine for not driving to the conditions.

That's right nomex doesn't meet australian standards for a few reasons.

-no liner in the pants
-no day night striping
-no moisture liner
-etc

Its still ok to wear it though, there's not much you can do about it, if you don't have the money you don't have the money.

That's fine, i don't think you would want 2 c.f.s 24p's being the only one's in station 20 though. It's alot different boosting a 20 story highrise building to boosting a winery or factory etc. I am also supprised m.f.s don't require c.f.s change of quarters appliances to have a PPV fan, high rise kit and RIV gear which most 24p's dont carry.

Andrew,

I know youre a busy man but do you think you could post some photos of the locker layout. There are plenty of photos of the truck but none with the lockers open.

Cheers.

Cheers.

Kat i think everyone who got you're type of 24p sent them back to isuzu to get them fitted. Clarendon has one of the same 24p's and sent theirs back.

I agree kat, i think now when we go to sydney instead of all being in some sort of blue or green c.f.s shirt people will be wearing thier favourite Bathurst or cooper's shirt and we'll look like a bunch of ferral's.

They are doing them at the moment and will automatically be sent out to the brigades. Last time i was at LION the girl was sorting through them. Eventually they will be sent out with the person's gear.
