34p's are 1900L per minute, just trying to find out what a 34 is but i believe the newest one's have a slightly bigger pump than the last one's.

Industrial & Private Fire Services / Re: private fire appliances

I do think that private units should have some sort of warning/safety lights. most end up on or near roads at some point and should have an amber flashing light of some sort. Almost everyone doing anything needs to have an amber flashing light these days. That way you can ensure the bombers know where they are and they can be seen at night time.

That's a great idea. That way C.F.S could pitch in with some adveritiseing and posters etc.

It is hard to get people to come to one brigades open day but i think if a whole region was to have an open day people would make it a day out and maybe visit 3 or 4 around their area.
Not only good for the public but for the volunteers to go around and see stations they may have never seen before

Lion apparel also make a structure glove which are quite good, not sure of the cost but probably are alot.
Might be worth investigating.

All Equipment discussion / Re: new level 3 gear (LION)
« on: August 12, 2005, 12:07:25 PM »
Again it's another case of buy now and think later....

Like i have said before everything should have been written out and planned way before thinking about buying the first set.

I would have thought you would find a manufacturer that could make the gear to suit our needs, not us change our needs to suit the manufacturer. :?

For example why not make the gear with a really easily removable liner :?

Some very good points there mike.

I remember when i first joined we used to have a shed at our old station that we would use for training. Before smoke machines were affordable we used to use an old washing machine barrel full of oil soaked sandbags smouldering to create smoke in the shed. I know now how dangerous this was but at the time we all just thought it was harmless smoke but in theory the shed could have flashed at any time due to the rich amount of unburnt gases. And of course this was in the days of overall's and turn out coats and top guard helmet's

I would rather someone show people the doll's house on a small scale than use a shed as a really big doll's house and actually go in to it as we used to do.

Yes, CBR seems to have gotten other states fire services plenty of new equipment but we have not really seen much here.
About all i've noticed is a couple of new pods in town and burnside probably have some new toys. Other states have recieved funding for major trucks and alot of highly trained personel. I suppose S.E.S have recieved a bit but nothing major.
As for the 6 hour training session it was probably that really exciting CBR video.

The trouble is again, only two inlets and two outlets on the 34p. I don't know much about the volvo but i imagine it has more than two in two out, i also imagine it is two stage or above. You can have as bigger pump as you want but only a certain amount of water can fit through a pipe at one time

This is only ever done to refresh members memory's who have already done the course, it's no worse than some fundraising bbq's our members have done.

Yes, it was when the state cadet co-ordinator first started so i think she was trying to do and say the right thing but backed off when we told her how impossible that would be.

I can't imagine our brigade ever doinig a change of quarters to M.F.S, it would be interesting to do though.

I am a cadet leader and i know the frustrations involved with the new rules on what cadets can and can't do eg: burnoff's.
Another issue is the age of going on the truck even after they are 16. For example we had a female cadet who moved up to firefighter at the age of 16, we were told by the cadet staff member ( can't remember the new one's name) that she could only go on the truck if there was two other female's over the age of 18 on the truck??? Her reason was that one of the female's may have to be incident controller or sector commander.
We nicely told her that it won't happen, but I guess it is a big issue these days with sexual abuse and the like.
It isn't much incouragement for female's to join the service if they are restricted like this right from the point of joining!!!

Yes, i would have thought when planning to get new gear such a directive would come naturally as part of the planning, no point buying a certain garment if you don't know what you want to use it for.
As for the directive i have heard one is coming out, but as with alot of other things c.f.s is being re-active not pro-active.

375
Yes, it should be good, as long as the people who become interested in joining on the night remember to come to the station and join later on.
