Depends on the station .Some like Renmark seem to have a roster by looking at their pager messages. Others like Mt Gambier dont. We have a book for people to book off if they are not available, the ones that arent booked off are expected to turn up for jobs. Basically the first ones through the door are the ones that ride the appliances.

Some stations do go to active standby on extreme days. Not just ban days but when the FDI is maybe 65+. I know Para group actually request their brigades to go on active standby on particular days. They usually have enough people around to do that.

sounds good, but oxygen would be better than compressed air. You can change the rate (maybe) and oxygen does have a calming effect.

Mt Gambier will be day staffing as of early January 2007 (officially).
ps Retained MFS regional stations (country) do have carbon fibre cylinders on their sets but have to use FRP as spare cylinders. Think this is changing when the new BA sets arrive though.

The sets also send a signal back to the ECO board (laptop) with the cylinder contents of each set during operations.

I posted that topic and thread ages ago. Doesnt mean stations will be built next week though. Just pre-planning for the future.

Have you actualy used it? Cant be that bad if it is on the run now and the 2nd one is being used to train Woodville.

I think that you will find that the budget allocation was indeed enough to outfit all BA operators in PBI there are not as many operators as you think.

MFS Scanias bodies from the latest batch were built by Liquip in Queensland, previous to that Fraser and Lowes (when they existed) in NZ

The command cars get changed over every 40,000km or every 2 years, so they dont stick around for long. George in the Mount has gone back to a Commodore now.

I believe some of the available colors for the Ford Territory have been dis-continued.

How does the rostering system work at brigades like Mt Barker? Do you still turn up if you are not rostered on but are available? Do they kick you off the truck? I have heard that a particular brigade in region 2 wont let you ride the 1st truck if your not on the duty crew even if you are first one there.

By looking at my PDW apparently Pt Pirie have a different ID for full timers and retainers (response pages). Also some of their fire calls caome through on their local fire line. So no the retainers dont get told about all the jobs. Hopefully down here in Gambier we will get paged for everything when the day staffing begins.

No re-furb appliances get kitted out out with the best of what comes back. They certainly do not get kitted out with all brand new stuff.

Cant see why you would go back to 24`s when you can have a 34 or 34P on the same cab/chassis for a similar build up price. Who wouldnt want the extra thousand litres of water?

Yes even Mt Barker got a guernsey as well as others like salisbury, tea tree gully ,athelstone and the like. I wasnt BA then so I didnt get a gig unfortunately. Would have been good to miss some of school for it.

The UFU like to go around and bag the CFS, without good reason. So dont praise them too much.

MFS use Holmatro rescue equipment across the board, so if the are at a job with CFS/SES who also have Holmatro then the tools/couplings are interchangeable. However many CFS brigades run Lukas rescue gear as the CFS bought about 20 sets and got a deal in 2000 when they outfitted many of the new 24P`s with them. So of course the lukas stuff doesnt work with the Holmatro.

Yeah Bill its embarrasing when you have to call your own brigade to your house. I had to do it when I was still a cadet at Barker for guess what, a chimney fire too. lol

A lot of brigades face the same problem, people have to follow the work and many work away from where they live. Or young people move away to study etc.

There was a brigade in the same boat a few years ago. Somewhere around Strathalbyn in region 1. They had severe membership issues so they did a letterbox drop to the whole town, basically saying `we need you, if no-one joins, your CFS will be disbanded`. Suffice to say they had a poor response and the CFS folded. All their calls are now handled by nearby brigades. Not a great result but what can you do?

I have been a member of a brigade which had problems getting drivers zt call-outs. I was a driver there and went when I could. If I was a driver at Seaford and saw that pager message i would not be impressed.
