That's the problem we face these days, the legal system is so out of order. A police officer was doing his job, and because some one was breaking the law (for the second time that day) and got killed they bring it back on the police. All this is going to do is lower the confidence of the police in chases, i mean, if they're going to be so weak on this rule, there are going to be more people getting away because they'll think "if i go a bit faster, they'll call the chase off and i won't get caught". I understand some one died but seriously, if you're going to try and be a hero, we'll bad luck of the out come, the police are doing their job. Idiots get away with too much these days and people who commit small crimes get away with nothing. The worse the crime, the less punishment you get!

Incident Operations / Unley fire
« on: December 07, 2008, 12:23:44 PM »
A WILD blaze in an Unley duplex has caused more than a million dollars' damage and left a man fighting for his life in hospital with serious burns.

Emergency crews were called to the Cleland Ave blaze at 5.35am this morning and found flames pouring out the first floor of a family home.

Two adults and three teenage children were home when it took hold and the father was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.

Flames quickly spread into the roof cavity and caused extensive damage to the neighboring apartment, which was vacant while the new owners prepared to move in.

Currently on holidays, they had already filed the house with furniture and a large amount of other personal items. It is expected both properties will be demolished.
Racing downstairs, she was confronted by the shocking sight of her seriously burned neighbour and his devastated wife begging for help.

``I heard glass breaking and I heard running and I thought someone had thrown something through the window,'' she said.

``It just went up like a bomb. Everything sucked up like a vacuum.''

Mrs Chandler grabbed a garden hose in a vain attempt to douse the flames.

Her neighbours had moved to the street little more than a month earlier. She described them as a caring couple who fitted in well but holds grave fears for the injured man.

"I'd say he had third degree burns, all down his body,'' she said.

The Metropolitan Fire Service dispatched seven crews and 26 firefighters took about an hour to bring the blaze under control.

It was still visibly smouldering more than two hours after first taking hold.

Fire scene investigators are working to determine the cause, but have confirmed it will become the subject of a police inquiry.

The man's wife and his three teenage children are understood to be holding a bedside vigil.

SAMFS / Re: Reflectors on wheels
« on: December 05, 2008, 07:44:25 PM »
I think it's compulsory on MFS trucks and optional on other trucks. It may also depend on the class of the truck. I wont be suprised if it's mandatory on all trucks one day.

Notice how they all point inwards? When the nut loosens, the tag slips and is obviously displaced.

Was there an incident where this happened?

SAMFS / Alarms
« on: December 01, 2008, 11:29:38 AM »
Has any one else noticed the increased number of false alarms lately?
As much as this is good revenue!, it's a nuisance.
But i do understand we still have to respond and always will but it's a worry seeing the number of false alarms going off lately.

What i mean is i wonder what the incident is.

Behaviour of the occupant of the house, in relation to calling the Fire Service repeatedly for things that he shouldn't.

Pip

Thanks

10:31:26   24-11-08   MFS: FROM 2090 LOCKER OPEN ON APPLIANCE MFS Elizabeth 332 Response

I think this may only be a test message because as you may have not noticed, this happened to 331 aswell a few minutes before. Aswell as recieving this message from the comms bus. Elizabeth were called to an incident after this message so unless 2090 is in their area, i think it may only be a test.

SA Firefighter General / Road crash
« on: November 16, 2008, 03:12:00 PM »
Looking on the adelaide now website, i found a story on a RCR at williamstown last night. Its says they had to wait for specialised cutting equipment from loxton-150kms away. I realise it's in CFS territory but Gawler MFS which has a pump/rescue is only like 15 minutes away.Surely for a vehicle accident this bad, they can call on the best/nearest resource rather than waiting this long. Even still, the heavy rescue truck at headquarters is closer, only about 50km/s away.

Good god! That could never happen.... Its like... Its worse than I could imagine... no... SAMFS could never turn into a REAL fire service with a REAL workload!

NOOO....

Be careful what you say, you don't always know who's on the other end....
Some people may see this as a dig at the MFS which is not right.
