A couple of our operators got there gear a couple of weeks back and no there was no flash hood with them.

Does anyone know whether the tender has progressed that was advertised a while back.

wasnt part of the project phoenix findings have something to do with election of officers?

Think someone said they wanted to change it so the brigade nomintated the people and regional (or group?) chose the person.  Mainly based on training and experiance rather then popularity.

yeah but both kadina cfs and mfs are responded by pager....MT Barker would be full time there fore respond within the minute i guess.

Which would mean it would be silly to have the CFS still do rescue (at least for the city) as they couldnt respond as fast.

Not knowing what the RCR directory states but i would imagine the quickest responding service would be primary rescue.

Wash our truck as required.  Remember the water restrictions people!!! haha

Also sweep the station floor whenever the dirt starts to build up.  No real point in cleaning the station too often as its not a sealed shed and the dust builds up over night and stuff sweeping it on the daily.

2nd Nature to put the pager on in the morning....Dont know what is so hard about it?

I work in a workplace where there is alot of lifting and stuff and it doesnt get knocked around so you cant really use that excuse.

The only reason i could see is to try and limit numbers...

you would probaly end up with heaps more people if vollie departments were allowed to compete.

probably. I wonder if that was in relation to that big rcr near the border last night?

I doubt it...it was about 70kms from there.  I drove near there today and it seemed like road works of some sort but i didnt get close enough to have a look.

Would be interesting to see what would happen with the rescue side of things.

If the Mt Barker station was only setup with a 9 i would doubt they would be keen on sending that appliance too far out of town for rescue.

Which to my thought Mt Barker CFS would keep there type 2 rescue for out of town rescues and a 34 and maybe a 14

Possibly a doubling up resources like we see in a few other places but until we all operate as one fire service under safecom im afraid thats what it would look like to me.

Country Fire Service / Brigade Level Training
« on: July 12, 2006, 05:40:22 PM »
Gday Folks,

Not sure if this is in the right spot but im sure someone will move it.

Anyway.

Just curious, how does a brigade keep up its skill levels if it doesnt have any in house training?

Been thinking about this for a while and even though what im about to suggest would mean taking more time out of Vollies busy lives but it would improve safety on the fire ground.

What if State HQ were to implement a yearly training roster for brigades to complete in house?  e.g 1 training per month on the basics like pumping and hose work etc.

Would this be too much pressure on brigades to complete?

What do people think and what things should/would be included?

BWC was created because when we go interstate or people come from interstate there was some uniformity.

Anywhere between 6 and 15 minutes depending where people are at the time.

but as an average 8 minutes.  Our closest member that responds frequently lives about 3kms from the station.

Pretty sure they are not allowed to because it would work out as a triple shift i guess.

work 8 hours then spend 5 hours at a large fire then go back to work the next morning i doubt they would be too happy

Mt Barkers type 2 was altered for rescue so could of possibly cost more then a normal type 2.

Also $100,000 for the Dennis was the quoted price wasnt it?  After all the screwing around and unexpected stuff didnt it cost a heap more?

You wouldnt prefer a 24/7 manned fire station to protect you and your family?

Well thats not really the issue im referring too.  I would love that but its just the way the union have gone about it that is a kick in the teeth.

it sounds harsh i understand that Camo;

but who can argue that the CFS way is better than 3 firies and an SO sitting with the appliance 24/7 available to respond

Im not arguing the fact that the MFS arent quicker then the CFS in regards to 24/7 but its more the way the union have written it.

If you want to read it the way they have written it there would be MFS in every town across the state as everyone pays the ESL.

If i remember correctly the grant from the government was for $2 Million.

PBI for all BA Operators and the rest was being spent on New Proban Uniforms.

something like 1500 PBI and 500 Proban.

It would be like a david vs galioth battle....haha

Someone needs to bring the response times of Murray Bridge MFS to the attention of the union.  I know plenty of CFS brigades that can get out the door faster then this station.

I dont mind them building an MFS station there in the future if needed but this bit here is the kick in the teeth to any cfs vollie

The Union has always held the view that as all people now pay the Emergency Services Levy, they should be entitled to the provision of the best available emergency service response.
