What to save
« on: September 03, 2006, 04:16:05 PM »
A question about morals:
A crew of CFS vols arrive in a street as a fire hits it. There are 4 houses on the street, all occupants are not at home.
The houses owners are:

  • An elderly woman who has trouble walking
  • A lawyer
  • A single mother with 3 children
  • A CFS volunteer who is out fighting the fire on another truck

For whatever reason, the crew can only save one house. They save the CFS vols house because he's their mate, (and he would have been at home to defend his own house, if he wasn't out on a truck)...

Should they have saved one of the other houses instead?

(This isn't based on any real life event, I'm just curious ;))

I'm sorry but family and friends come before others. But i guess you would never really know what you'd do until it really happens :|

Save the house that ha the best posible chance of being saved. Although if it was a brigade members house I would suggest it be first priority.

Pending on time you could call for additional trucks to assist that way you'll be able to save all 4 houses bearing in mind one of the houses does belong to a lawyer

But it all comes down to the direction in which the fire has come from and the house its likely to hit first would be the one you save

Yeah I believe the suggestion is that there are only resources enough to save a single house.

The suggestion is that you can only save one house, and they are all equally under threat - in other words the decision on what house to save is based purely on the owners...

I tend to agree with mundcfs - family and friends first.... :)

Purely based on the people...... Hmmm...
The question is where do we stand to save the most.

if everything was equal??? Well Safety says:

me first
then my fellow crew
then everyone else

Dont see any reason to create a new theory....
Would be a tough call for the person in any case.

In a strike team situation you may well be in an unfamiliar area and have no idea who owns what house. I would try to save the house that you had the best chance of saving simple.
