Perhaps he needs to be informed about mis-appropriate use of the paging network..

I have had a look through a bit of this thread... Seems alot abuse a fairly vital piece of equipment / technology.

The PBI has a moisture barrier which is *meant* to reduce the possibility of steam / heat conducting related burns..

It comes down to common sense. If it was a 2 in the morning call, the comcen who took the call should note it and make contact with the brigade / service the next morning..

Common sense... Wonderful thing that.

Not necessary for every appliance etc just the areas with no mobile coverage.

The cost would be worth it if it saved one life in an emergency

CFS is still listed in the 4WD Directory as monitoring by selcall

Is anyone aware of their s'call I.D number?

I'm impressed.

I should have clarified the ladder question, I should have typed the make of the ladder setup, that being the Morialta (sp) ladder appliance.

Excellent work.

Any takers on some questions?

Yes, the CFS SOCC do have a HF radio.

Robert34 - The outlay in cost to fit every appliance in the state, plus stations with a HF radio, would be Millions... $$$

I was going to put this into the offtopic area, but it is all about fire service heritage so figured the general arena would suit it more...

Basically, I will start off the thread with a couple of trivia questions, from either past or present " Fire Services ".. (Not limiting it to any one service..)..

When the correct answers are given, or if over a week or so no one finds the answer, a different question can be posted, or i'm sure I could rustle a few more up...  - Hopefully we will all relive some memories, learn something and have a bit of a smile..

Question time...

1)What appliance, made by Mills Tui, at one stage featured the radio callsign VL5NO, on its doors? - Hints - The appliance is over 20 years old, and is STILL currently in service in the SACFS.

2) In 1990, what was the make of the front running ladder appliance? - The hint is in the word ladder....

3) In 1984, if you dialled the following number 391-2666, which SACFS station would you be calling?

----
Enjoy, and goodluck.

SAMFS / Re: This is a joke!

In regards to the response being a joke, it is anything but.

Why should the call be ignored by a fire service? (I say ' a ' fire service, as I have seen responses like this for both services)..

Why should it be ignored?? So it can be responded too a few days later when the house is fully involved in fire and a person is reported?

Why should someone who may not be physically able, with no family, scared of the new or noisy neighbours, or simply elderly with no one else but the people who wear a uniform and make them feel safe, not be able to contact the fire service, which they pay their ESL too or donate to every year, and have them come down during the day and fix their smoke alarm?

I'm not going to tell you go get a life, or grow up, or get a grip on reality, but I will tell you to consider the fact of why you are part of a fire service... - Saving life? Protecting and serving your community?.. - Well, assisting a resident in changing a smoke alarm battery on the occasional once off may just save a life, and may just be doing your job that much better..

Found the following for you...

http://www.fedsig.com/multimedia/sirens/index.php?id=108

HYPERYELP = 'Priority' tone

If you really want to move traffic, have a listen to the ' Scan ' tone also. - The electronic airhorns are a little dull, true airhorns break peoples concentration / tunnel vision when driving and really make the ears perk up.

For another version of hyperyelp - listen to  'Priority' tone on this link also..

Unless you *only* carry RIT equipment, I believe you would be classified as a heavy rescue, resource.

My 2c worth.. - This will never happen, if an aviation incident was to occur, outside of the metro area, a response just like any other would occur.  With the possibility of increased Rescue, Hazmat and GP apliances.

it does happen.

Salisbury CFS quite often respond to parafield airport with MFS for incidents. There have been incidents at Pt Augusta airport that stirling north have responded to assist mfs at... There was also a job at murray bridge just a week or so ago.

Normal road crash responses apply with the addition of HAZMAT if deemed necessary.

  This is where forums really come into a par of there own... - I wasn't saying the jobs will not occur, I was saying the "building / designing / making" of a specialised Aircraft Rescue Unit would not occur... - Then went onto mention if an aviation type incident occured, a response to fit the incidents specific requirements would be tasked. Weather this be the heavy rescue pod, foam pod, aviation tenders, rescue and hazmat resources, general purpose pumpers etc etc..

Hyperyelp/ Hyperlow and Air/Electronic Horn through intersections, vary between wail and yelp through traffic / longer periods without intersections...

The only training available which would be of any use would be componenets of Public Safety Cert III ~ Respond to Aviation Rescue, or the International Aviation Fire Fighters Training.

Which may I add, is thousands upon thousands of dollars.

There may be *some* limited training to stations that cover fairly active airfields, but I believe this is as far as it would go.

Now why was he in the boot ??? Would this be a P1 ??

This would have been a P1 response from MFS unless stated in the broadcast Priority 2

I don't think Mt. Gambier have a broadcast system.

Will never never never never go back there again. And they wonder when they ask for 2 strike teams they only get seven trucks and not enough crew to man them. Poorly run and when questions were asked about safety due to lack of sleep it was basically dismissed. :x

It sounds like something that definately needs to be brought up, and actioned in a formal De-breif.

Sure it might be an inconvenience, but who ever has made the decision would have done so with consultation, it is their right and their responsibility to make the call. I understand some noses may have been put out of place (so to speak), sure, some people may be disappointed but it was obviously decided it was in the communities and states best interest, that Volunteers protect, to cancel the competitions.

Think about all the crews fighting fires currently that can't attend anyway as they will still be on strike team deployment. Think about what we have seen over the last few days, which if occurred again would have occurred in areas which were under-crewed due to people being at the competitions.

Unfortunately, sometimes "IT" happens... Just look forward to next year and hope the fire season won't shape up to what it has displayed in the last few days.
