Fire Fighter Training / Emergency Driving/Traffic Marshalling Course
« on: December 10, 2006, 01:22:00 PM »
Recently I organized a Presentation Night with SAPOL.

I asked SAPOL to talk about Priority Driving/Emergency Driving & Traffic Marshalling.

They sent an Officer from Traffic Management down to us and I also invited a local Officer from Victor Harbor to attend.

I organized it as a brigade training event. It was very successful with other brigades being interested in attending if I organized another session
30 attended the 1st session.

A 2nd night was set up at Port Elliot with another 75 members attending representing 3 Groups and 11 brigades.

The Traffic Marshaling section was a certified course with all members passing. SAPOL organise for certificates to be issued.
People dealing with traffic control (events, parades, accidents etc) should look at this presentation.

The cost for the presentation was $0.00

If you want more info just message me and i can give you contacts etc

It really is a good night. The night went for approx 90 minutes.

SA Firefighter General / New Green Uniforms
« on: December 10, 2006, 12:57:14 PM »
While in Waikerie I saw several CFS people wearing Green 2 piece dress type uniforms.
Has anyone else seen them. I spoke to one of them about the uniform. It seems to be a half way between uniform, half way between Yellow firefighting and Dress uniform.

Has anyone here got a set of this already. If so, i would like to hear what you think  :-)

Introductions / aust_fire1 intro

Hi People.
 My name is Allan.
I have been a member for 27 yrs. I joined the EFS mid 1979. Joined because my Father, Uncle and Grandfather were also members.

I am at present the Captain of the Port Elliot brigade. Over the years I have held every position in the brigade at sometime or another.

I am the last original member of the original CFS Group (Mundoo Group - formally Goolwa & Districts Group) still holding a position in the Group. Have held a position in the group ever since it was formed in 1987. (Equipment Officer for 17 yrs & Logistics for 5 yrs.)

When I joined we had a Blitz truck and a trailer pump. We progressed to a c-1300 International and a D-1410 international in the early 80's. We eventually obtained a 24 & 34 hino which are the current appliances being used.

My 1st fire was at Deep Creek in Dec 1979. I have been involved in nearly every major tasking including both Ash Wednesdays in 1980 & 83.
I have no plans to retire from the brigade or group, nor do I plan on any ranking above captain.

My Grandfather was the person who decided to encourage Port Elliot to form a registered Fire Service. He, at that time was a fire supervisor for the district.
We formed in 1958, but the town had a trailer pump before that date. The trailer pump was purchased in 1948 from the Civil Defence in Keswick.

Hope I have not bored you.

SA Firefighter General / Task Force Complaints
« on: December 07, 2006, 09:35:45 AM »
We go on Task Forces all over the State & Interstate.
What are the problems we have when Tasking.
Is it the food or lack of it.
Is it the sitting around all day.
Is it the long hours.
Is it the Lack of Infomation.
Is it the extremely short notice to Task to an incident.
Is it the sleeping arrangements.
Is it leaving your appliance behind at the incident for others to use.
Is it being told to crew an appliance other than your own when your unit is also there.
Is it going to an unfamiliar area and no local rep is assigned to your task force to assist your team in arriving. Telling you about all the hidden obsticles that only a local will know about.
Or anything at all.

OK, lets get started
