Congratulations to all the teams who took part in the Mine Rescue Comp hosted by Angus Zinc over the weekend.

Teams from Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill, Angus Zinc, Stawell, Broken Hill and Fosterville took park in a range of exercises.

Firefighting, BA, Rope Rescue and a theory component was conducted at STC, while Search and Rescue, RCR, Skills and First Aid was conducted around Strathalbyn.

A fantastic effort by everyone, with special mention to Olympic Dam who won overall.

Country Fire Service / CFS Appliances involved in MVA
« on: November 20, 2009, 06:13:34 AM »
Was watching the news last night when they mentioned 2 trucks had been involved in a collision.

5 injured, (I think they said 2 serious?)
It looked like quite a substantial impact from the pictures....

These things should serve as a timely reminder to be vigilant and stay safe.
I wish all involved a speedy recovery.

SA Firefighter General / Response types
« on: September 14, 2009, 09:50:58 AM »
In recent times Ive noticed paging (similar to the one below) where crews have been responded to a tree down rather than an MVA.

Now, I acknowledge that ALL the information is contained in this message, as it has been in the others, and as such is not worthy of complaint. But I'm just wondering how its decided to respond as a tree down rather than MVA.

Its just that the pedantic part of me considers the MVA to be the more critical aspect...

All Equipment discussion / Eflare Vs Powerflare
« on: September 25, 2008, 08:47:51 AM »
Our brigade is looking into purchasing a few of these Powerflares.
I have used the Eflares previously, and am wondering if anyone has any experience with the Powerflares.

How do they perform compared to eflares etc?

Links to both Powerflare and Eflare are below.

Fire Fighter Training / BA Course
« on: July 17, 2008, 08:14:35 AM »
When did they stop giving pre-course assignments to people doing their initial BA course? Or has something been left out of the envelope?

Just seemed a bit odd.....

It was a very informative and valuable day which was enjoyed by all.

Thanks to the Guys for their efforts. :)

Country Fire Service / Portable Dams
« on: January 29, 2008, 06:32:44 AM »
Why is it that we dont make better use of portable dams when BWC's are required?
Limits the issue of being waterless when the BWC needs to refill... Should a Dam of some form be stowage on BWC's (or are they already on the newer ones)?

All Equipment discussion / Rescue Gloves
« on: April 26, 2007, 07:50:33 AM »
Who has used the red/black PT Rescue gloves and how would you rate them compared to the Crossfire rescue gloves.

We have always used the Crossfire gloves and i find them quite comfortable/usable, but never used the others.

Our unit is looking at swapping types, so any opinions welcome.

Cheers
