All Equipment discussion / Re: What do you carry in your PPC?
« on: January 21, 2014, 02:06:59 PM »
With all these personal items we carry, what do you carry them in? My Brigade is looking at some bum bag style bags for personal items like phones, medication, leatherman, dust mask, nitrile gloves etc. Can anyone recommend a nice size durable bag? I have seen one with a reflective stripe stitched to it but not sure of the brand.

« on: January 21, 2014, 02:00:32 PM »
My Brigade has been trialling FFRS for a couple of months now and at last nights meeting decided to go with. It suits us and doesn't cost that much for our Brigade. There is local support and the developers are always improving, updating and taking suggestions to add modify the programme. It is also updated on a fortnightly basis with new stuff added or modified. It does so much which is very useful.

We've got a Uniden UBCT8 Scanner. It needs reprogramming...can anyone help?

I'd rather give it to someone than fumble thru the instructions on SA Scan (great site tho)!

All Equipment discussion / Weather Station
« on: May 07, 2013, 10:09:13 AM »
Our Station has a Davis Weather Monitor 2. We are running Weatherlink software but that now won't work on the new SAFECOM E-Connect computers.  There are 100's of these weather stations and software out there - What have other Brigades upgraded to or what software are you using to run the weather station?

Any help appreciated.

Hi all,

Yes, we were successful in getting a grant for the TIC. We went with the Infrasys E380. A great camera with tactical handle for laser pointing and photo/video recording. The screen resolution is great and can be seen easily in full sunlight. Tacked onto a Regional order or about $13k.
We also won the People's choice award where our funding was doubled so we got another camera to compliment the Region. This also gave us an opportunity to promote our brigade and the CFS with a promo video used by SGIC.
As per policies, yes, all equipment was approved.
Very happy with the camera and we have used it heaps since we received it.

I don't think there is a guideline or SOP on info paging.
There is one on response paging. SOP 10.3

CAD upgrade today, should make life easier.
Once current jobs that already have comments in them start to disappear this is all you will see for alarm levels, just the current one.

I noticed this yesterday on a couple of our jobs.  Makes life much easier.

Are there some figures available on the number of brigades 'taking advantage' of the DGR status?  I may be from one of those brigades, but I always thought the CFS relied heavily upon donations to run, and being tax deductible makes us more attractive.  I can appreciate the reasons for dropping our DGR status, but I know it will have an impact on at least my brigade's income.

My Brigade is quite the opposite. Most of the income is from fundraising -"Here's some money for xxxx". Not donations where it is a case of "Gee you people are good, here's some money". The 'for' word is the difference between a donation and fundraising.

What Pip said.

All RVMC's signed off on it.

Not looking at any subsequent response pages, is this confusing to anyone else?

SA Firefighter General / Help wanted! Thermal Imaging Camera
« on: July 02, 2012, 09:38:27 AM »
Hello all.
Recently our Brigade was awarded a grant to purchase a Thermal Imaging Camera. We have been selected as a People's Choice Award finalist where we have the opportunity to double the funding.
I am after any photos or video footage where a Thermal Imaging Camera is in use at training or an incident - or any photos or video footage that relates to a Thermal Imaging Camera that we can use to promote our project.

I know there may not be too much out there, but anything would help and be appreciated.

Feel free to PM me for my contact details if you have anything.
Thanks!

SA Firefighter General / Re: GRN paging software
« on: June 14, 2012, 12:44:10 PM »
Can anyone tell me what pager addresses are currently used, ie Brigade info, Brigade response, Region weather, Region maildrop, Group info, Group officer info etc etc.  Curious to know what 'paging groups/addresses' are used.

Cheers.

There is a thread here that mt barker use, online with a smart phone app, seems a good crew management tool, very widely used in America.

Are you referring to the Firefighter Response System or a different one?  I am keen to hear on any smartphone apps where members could log in, available, or on route to station etc via the app.

They've ordered them...they don't physically have them yet.
Yes I'm sure. The info came direct from the supplier (where I am also looking at purchasing thru).

I'm looking at the Infrasys E380 with TAC grip 3. Comes in a hard case. MFS have just bought 5, so hopefully this will be on the right track to what would be good.

As has already been said, get the approval from your Region first. My brigade purchased an Argus 4 which is the same model that the CFS & MFS use. It is a good unit and easy to use, also all the risk assessments and approvals for use have already been done.

Thanks Darcyq. I'll look into it.

Hi all,
I'm after some info on Thermal Imaging Camera's. Looking at getting one (thru a grant). Can anyone give me some info on what model is best used within CFS and any other info.
Thanks.

After every job I always put on FB "Well done to the CFS crews today" or something similar. I think it's impotant people know we are out and about...after all they can see much more than that on the CFS FB page, the CFS website or the paging site. It's not appropriate to put up specific details tho. As mentioned, use you brain and you'll be right. We have a simple Brigade Rule regarding this stuff which seems to work fine.  The draft media policy has everyone scared they won't be able to vent on social media sites instead of actually going thru proper channels

Hi all.
Meningie has a new website. If your Brigade has a site, feel free to add it to your links page.

www.meningie.sacfs.org

We'll see how long it lasts with the introduction of the Media draft paper  :-P

News is a bit behind on this one.  The cull happened months ago. Two are still retained at SAFECOM, none in Regions.  Sorry, but ours was hopeless.
"I'll have to speak to my line manager to see if there's any money...Here's $100 for a VERSP night. I'm a meat on a plate sort of guy, so you'll have to buy the salads and I really need to know exactly how many are coming so I don't get too much meat". Really!
