All Equipment discussion / Re: PBI - Hated by CFSHQ Since 2005
« on: December 11, 2009, 09:45:24 AM »
If you're following the poster I would think you're on safe ground.

The poster is simple to understa.... and issued by state.

As I have told my captain, until something is provided in writing by state that contradicts the current information, I will wear the best aforded protection that suits the situation (as allowed by the ticks).

As for storm/weather: PBI povides a water barrier. Why carry another coat in the rain....?

Country Fire Service / Re: CFS Appliances involved in MVA

Im disappointed.
A simple post wishing people a quick recovery and reminding all to stay safe turns into a slinging match.
It is quite obvious that something did not go according to plan... at this stage it doesnt need to be analysed any further.

Dont let the thread go down the same path again.  :x

Country Fire Service / CFS Appliances involved in MVA

Was watching the news last night when they mentioned 2 trucks had been involved in a collision.

5 injured, (I think they said 2 serious?)
It looked like quite a substantial impact from the pictures....

These things should serve as a timely reminder to be vigilant and stay safe.
I wish all involved a speedy recovery.

Our captain mentioned that the documentation had been sighted at a group meeting, but was not allowed to be released.... apparently it promptly left with the GO...

Things like that are very dependent on the brigade/group Dusty...
It could easily go both ways, however a bit of discussion with the captain wouldnt go astray.

Dunno Mike, I guess it re-affirms to everyone you need to read the whole msg and not just respond on the tones like some do, then have no idea...

Totally agree, how often do people get caught out!

Just to re-affirm, I dont have any problems with this response (or the others ive seen like this)... its just a matter of interest :)

In recent times Ive noticed paging (similar to the one below) where crews have been responded to a tree down rather than an MVA.

Now, I acknowledge that ALL the information is contained in this message, as it has been in the others, and as such is not worthy of complaint. But I'm just wondering how its decided to respond as a tree down rather than MVA.

Its just that the pedantic part of me considers the MVA to be the more critical aspect...

But (if you ask them...) they weren't there to rescue the DEAD cow, just protect the other rescuers from being washed away

A blonde calls delta airlines and asks, "how long will it take from New York to San Francisco"?,
The agent replies, "Just a minute",
The blonde says "Thank you" and hangs up

Moving the goals would need to be justified.....
However, if they do move and the brigade does not feel it can meet the requirements of todays service... then closure may be an option. I would fully expect them to do everything possible to prevent that from happening though...

As has ben mentioned before, the service has moved on, some brigades have resisted this for a surprising amount of time, but its time to pick the game up and play ball...

OK, time to get back on topic...

Skills maintenance is good, provided guidelines are given and explained correctly. Look at the problems they had with the burnover drill last year.
We also dont want to get to the point where all we do is skills maintenance drills.

SASES / Re: SES P1 responses when the SCC opens
« on: April 29, 2009, 10:42:04 AM »
P1 to a tree over road has always bewildered me to a certain extent.
No matter how fast I rush to that job, if a car is on the road in front of me it (if its going to hit the tree) will....

Unfortunately metro SES units tend to be the blight of the public SES perception (and yes some country units to)... and the paged responses dont help this at all.... The vollie interview i heard on the radio this morning said it all.....

Do people in the CFS wanna do walk throughs like the local mfs units do in town of all their areas to sites at all? Cause im sure the industry would be willing... even the company i work for even though they're multi-national would probs be willing to do walkthroughs. If not for the systems then to check what loads eg flammable and explosive so you know where they are in emergency...?

Is this not something that should be covered in specific risk planning?
We try and arrange site visits every so often for this very reason...
