SAMFS / Re: Recruitment 2016
« on: September 02, 2017, 11:54:10 AM »
Anybody have any idea how many more squads will be run from the current recruitment process? The third squad starts this month and they are also interviewing more candidates later this month so must be running at least one more squad early 2018...

Believe wheels were in motion to establish retained MFS in Mt Barker this year, but now not happening. Mt Barker will remain CFS for the "foreseeable future" is what I have heard. Couple reasons for this (that I have been told):
1) MFS didn't have enough funds available to build a new station in Mt Barker at this time due to other station replacement projects.
2) Retained MFS would provide no significant improvement in service delivery v's Volunteers as both rely on very similar systems i.e not full time staffing and similar response times.

Believe Mt Barker will soon lose their loan MFS Scanias, but not sure what their appliance line up will look like?

Interesting article in this weeks Courier...

Anyone have any understanding of drill squad selection with respect to interview pools?

They are definitely interviewing more candidates in September (number I've heard from an unofficial source is 30). So would it be that the 18 person 4th squad is selected only from this pool of 30 interviewees? Or would they have people identified and left over from the last interview pool(s) that will fill a number of positions in the 4th squad?

I also heard that after the 4th squad in early 2018, that will be the end of this intake and the whole process will start all over again... surely this can't be the case?

Interview early April, pat 2 late May, medical first week June, referee checks early July, job offer mid august

Okay thanks. Sounds like there is some more interviews happening in September. Would this be the last of the successful PAT 1 candidates?

Congratulations Riseandshine. What was the timeline for you in terms of when you did your Interview, Pat 2, Medical etc?

Any estimate as to how many candidates have now been through the interview stage?

I believe there was ~180 candidates that passed PAT 1, 50 were interviewed before Christmas and ~130 told they are in the future interview pool. Since then, sounds like there has been an additional two rounds (please correct me if wrong) of interviews carried out? So, mustn't be too many still sitting in the interview pool?

Are Williamston having crewing difficulties? If so, good to see a common sense approach. Don't know about the bit about having to receive all response messages associated with Williamstown 24P R - would be quite annoying.

Saw a page a couple of days ago from Lyndoch saying they had some Holmatro gear on loan.

Think that page was regarding servicing. They have had Holmatro Rapid Intervention kit for many years.

"You are not ranting, but like most people on this forum you appear to want change and are frustrated at the speed in which this is happening (or not happening). If you want to make change then put up a factual WRITTEN case and seek the support of your Brigade, your Group (solidarity in numbers), your Region (get the support of other groups) and put it to CFS."

Unfortunately, voicing your concerns with the CFS only falls on deaf ears. And even if the CFS is interested, they don’t have the funding or the resources to do it anyway.

The CFS and the entire sector needs a shake-up. So as I said before…

The Minister has asked for Volunteer input on the reform process, so put all your ideas and justifications into a structured, factual, well worded format and send them in.

We can all whinge about the problems on this forum to the cows come home, but you are preaching to the converted.

Unfortunately the impression I got from the Minister was that everything is “hunky dorey” on the ground. He needs to be informed otherwise!

I think we can agree on one thing, the current system is broken!

Minister has asked for any thoughts/ideas/proposals on how we think the Emergency Services (MFS, CFS, SES) should be structured to be submitted in writing and emailed to...  [email protected]

Pretty sure Mt Barker did... and they got told to go away and be quiet.

Can't ever see CFS having retained fire-fighters - would be too hard for them.

Moral of the story seems to be 1 Organisation, but still 3 Services. Can't see how this is going to save the $$$ the Government wants.

On a side note... why/what did Lyndoch CFS have to do a 5 year plan for?

Its ok we will all be one big happy family soon

Consolidation of CFS and SES to a single Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service makes a lot of sense (IMO). More difficult when you try to merge un-paid and paid services into one, but not impossible.

Viability of some country retained MFS stations and some metro SES Units could be questioned.

Anyway, I'll believe it when I see it... similar rumours have been floating around for many years and nothings ever come of them.

Does the proposal involve MFS taking over existing CFS Station or a new station?

Also, what about membership numbers? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it 8 members per appliance for a retained MFS station?

Only time well tell, but you might be onto something

I thought so. Believe the set-up might be retained MFS station, with 2 pumps (1 RCR) plus one of the little ROSA (rural) trucks.

Just what I have heard, and we all know how reliable rumours are......not!!!

Amen to that, Its time.

Is that what the Mt Barker crew want (to be taken over by MFS)?
