How many brigade's / groups after the fire season give thank you letters or certificates to employers who let their staff attend call out over the busy season?? Or how many do the same with company's that go out of the way to help with food or supply's at silly hours of the day and night.

Woolworths are very good when it comes to emergency service volunteers we have a couple of members in our brigade who work for them. Also they are happy to open the store after hours so as we can get food to feed members who are at call outs over night.

The hardest part is getting new a member and holding on to them,I think once people have done their BFF1 then they should get some sort of welcome letter from the boss or from the region. I know in the past that at our group BFF1 course the group officer or one of his DGO'S did a welcome and thank you talk for a few mins....

Multi skilled fire tester(alarm testing /fire extinguishers  etc)  my boss is very good as basically I am my own boss but if I need time of for CFS i just call the office and so far they have been cool with it..Am sure that when we put on another guy later this year then I should be able to get a week of now and then to go on strike teams out of the region...

Its time that we looked at having one service that does it all in some areas where both services are struggling to attract new members. I know we have been down this road before but if we dont take the lead then nothing will ever happen and we will be still here asking the same questions.....I know change is hard to take but just think of the new members one would have, lets face it it will happen one day and we will be one service(SAFECOM)

I did hear that chubb security had something to do with this as they have a number of defence contract around the world..But more than likely the yanks would have the hold on these jobs.....

Time he let crews get to the job and see for them selfs or better still give him a Q/A for his own use...No wounder members are getting pissed off down that end of the south east when he keeps stop calling them and no one is on scene...(my view only)

Country Fire Service / Re: Life Expectancy of New Trucks
« on: May 26, 2007, 09:02:47 PM »
Our pumper has had rust in chassie and body as have most of the fleet in the south east due to foam and heavy water(salt). The group has spent a lot of money getting the rust cut out and fixed but I think we may as well rotate  our appliances around from this region to another after 5 years(MAY VIEW ONLY) We are seeing new appliances after 12 months with rust in the body and once it starts its cut and fix them up..... This is not a isolated case and I am sure CFS are working on these problems.

I guess we will all just have to sit back and see what they get,I am sure that the brigade will get what it wants but at the end of the day it comes down to the cost... Mind you there are a couple of fire appliances on ebay...

Yes there are problems with the 34p with rust and from what someone in the know was telling me they also have a plumbing problem that will need to be fixed before any more are sent out to new homes.I guess sitting out in the cold and rain at northeast was the problem.
