hey does anyone know whether we will see a new line of standard 24's? its just because i see new 14's, 34's, 24p's and pumpers, but no regular 24's.
also hypethetically, what changes would you make if they brought in new regular 24's?
I heard a few years ago that 34's were being scrapped, but along come all these new one's. As for 24's i can't see CFS bringing out any new ones when 34's are as good and carry more water.

btw, do you have to have a HR licence to drive 34's, or is MR fine?
dont think they will be making any more 24p's either only 34p's. only what i've heard cause of the extra water capacity.
MR licence is fine....as long as the truck is under 15t and single rear axle. Get a dual rear axle then you need HR :-)
the common problem with a lot of the 24`s out there is that a lot of them are either overweight or very close to it. The Hino chassis that were used (especially the kestrels) were not up to the capacity of the Isuzu FTS 750 that they are using now. Not even close. Som I think the rural 24 might go the way of the do-do bird.
Athol is spot on, there will be no more new 24's.
From now on it's either a 34 or a 34P (or a type 2 if you're lucky). The Isuzu FTS 750 chasis can handle more weight than the Hino so that is now the standard. Interestingly the CFA are now about to build a stack of new 34's on dual cab four wheel drive Hino chasis, see the pic below.

Castaston(CFA) have got one of the new 34 and they are happy with it one of their members was saying that cfa/skilled will be making 50 this year and hope to be doing up to 100 in 2007.
the hino in the above pic is the same hino as the CFS's one and only CAFS truck - Blackwood! Just look at this bad boy!

when you compare the Blackwood Hino against the CFA one - the Blackwood one definitely has that 'fire appliance' look!
Looks good on the road too 8-)- would be happy with one of those, with a nice mid mount PTO pump (not to sure about the cafs though :-D)
Remove the cafs and you may have a nice appliances,I think our 34 are alot better,but skilled still make the better fire appliances. i did hear that hino are going to change their name??????

Skilled - mmm not to sure about that! I think what is built here is great (nice to have a home grown truck and not a mexican one :wink:) however when gauging any appliance you need to be mindful of the specification the truck was built to, not the manufacturer - hence the spec between the CFS and cfa is different and that is why the end result is different!
There have been many EXCELLENT appliance manufactures here - Carey Gully, Australian Fire Company etc - just a pity the SA market is so small, however what Moores are producing is excellent when you see the spec and the research they do off their own backs to produce a quality product!

We have had no problems - the issues we have had are with the prime mover - not Moores work, but then like anything there are always exceptions!
From what Ive heard they have bent over backwards to try and accommodate people - i.e. the Blackwood 24 CAFS - where they have worked and reworked to try and make it work correctly, including a lot of additional engineering.
Sometimes I think the stumbling block is the CFS paperwork and process, not the manufacturer :wink:
how true OZFIRE paperwork and name changes on appliances must cost lots of tax payer money............
oh i get sick at just looking at how much paperwork has to be done to get ANYTHING to happen in the CFS! i pity the day i have to fill out an accident/near miss form!
