SA Firefighter General / Leaving School For calls
« on: June 06, 2007, 10:43:27 PM »
i always laugh when my pager goes off for that one, because it is my school, so i have to leave school, jump on a truck and then respond back to school.

ohh, and they never evacuate when the alarms go off, which is annoying

would have thought your education may be more important than CFS... do you leave school for any call?

If your interested there is a thread set up on peoples professions and how easy it is for people to attend calls from their jobs. I'm a primary school teacher, and I know that if there is enough staff to cover my class I can respond, my Principal figures that we are a part of the community so need to give something back when we can...
(plus I think he lives in my response area, lol  :-P)

Great point about new members becoming experts Blue.
It is so true.
When people find out you are in CFS they expect you have been in it for 10 years +
I recently did a fire extinguisher course for school and instructor had been a met for 10 15 years + i think ,and when he found out I was in CFS he had asumed i had been to all sorts of incidents and been doing it for ages,so kept on referring to me for CFS point of view,
found myself doing the old "smile and nod" routine.
Made me feel important tho!!    :-D

Does anyone know about medical requirements of joining mets?
I have recently had knee surgery and had a large chunk of my ACL taken out, and the surgeon said that without a reconstruction MFS would not accept me.
Not that this is an issue because i'm not lookin at joining, but was interesting when i heard this.

Can anyone update any info on this??

I was just wondering that with the Emergency Services covering such a broad part of society,
What does everyone do for a job?
And how flexible are your employers?
(this is obviously not aimed at those employed by services...)

I'm a Primary School teacher, and I'm ok to go to callouts as long as there is cover.
Obviously my duty of care is to the kids,
But the kids love the fact that i might go racing out for a call...

There were some happy snappers walking round, hopefully some of them make it up here.

Yes we did have a debrief, so the idea of this thread was therefore to give those who werent there an understanding of te logistics of it all and a general discuss for everyone to find out how it went, things that could be improved and things that worked well. Its good to know some stuff thats happening around the state, I would be interested in finding out what other regions are doing along the lines of large scale training operations and also working with other agencies.

SA Firefighter General / Operation Seek
« on: May 23, 2007, 09:06:05 AM »
Hey Guys

For those of you in Mount Gambier, and who were involved with Operation Seek on Tuesday night, I would love to hear some feedback.  I have posted in this section because it was a operation involving many different agencies.

For those who aren't aware, Operation Seek was a multi agency training operation with MMFS CFS and SES, and Forestry SA involved (don't think there was any other...

Operation was co-ordinated by Blue and was done really well, I think it showed how agencies can and do work well together and also showed some areas where improvements need to be made.

I was going to describe the scenario but probably wouldnt do it justice, so Blue when you read this, can you fill us in on the details...

Really interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this, and would also like to hear of any other operations like this that occured, and how they went...

The leaves are opposite, pinnate with four leaflets (two opposite pairs; no terminal leaflet), each leaflet 1 to 7 cm (⅜ to 2¾ in) long and 1 to 3 cm (⅜ to 1 inch) broad. The flowers are a typical peaflower in shape, 2 to 4 cm (¾ to 1½ in) across, yellow with reddish veining.
