jeeze everyone in my brigade got a CFS cap and polo shirt (paid for from brigade funds).  We also had the option to buy a CFS windcheater (with your own money).  I thought pretty much every brigade did something similar, it's not very much money and helps you all look and feel part of the team.

If you have read everything on the forum or have clicked "mark all read" Then when you go to show all unread posts it will say no messages, all are marked as read.

To see your private messages click the link near your user name in the login form.

I hope this makes sense..... :-D

yes it does, however I haven't clicked "mark all read" and I know I haven't read every post as there are whole threads I haven't read (like the word association one) since very early in the thread when I decided it was of no interest to me.

there appears to be a confusing double use of the word "messages", ie. one use is referring to private messages but another use is sometimes referring to posts or topics.

that repeated message you're talking about Toast went to Chaffey Group Officers.  It appears to be a stuffup at SHQ that Glossop were missed off the first page at 23:56.

no it's no different.  However it when it says "no messages" I'm wondering if it's just bad wording and should say "no posts" as it appears under "unread topics", but the way it says "no messages" implies it's referring to personal messages.  Got what I mean...

« on: August 09, 2006, 02:11:51 PM »

when I click "show all unread posts since last visit" and it says there are none, so then I click on the option to "click here to try all unread topics", the link is:
http://www.safirefighter.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=53&action=unread;all;start=0
however clicking it takes me to a page that says there are "no messages...".

Country Fire Service / Re: Why has this forum started to suck???

The great thing, is it shows how uneducated people are in CFS and how little "real" information is distributed below GO or Captains in CFS.

maybe the GO/Capts do distribute said information but it doesn't sink in?  Isn't there an expression about those who talk (or "type" in this case) the most do the least listening? (if not there should be!)

How did you go getting the training material Darius? Wouldn't mind getting a copy for my brigade if you found some...

had a complete lack of success so far.  It appears everyone just makes up their own.

Yes, maybe I am a bit of a pioneer..I was the first & only female Capt on EP...but I can only do it with the confidence and backing of my peers!  :-)

well done. Only "problem" perhaps is your brigade then needs a new captain! (lots of brigades don't seem to do the sucession planning thing very well - not that I'm saying yours is like that).

actually robert 14s and QAVs are differant....
a 14 carries 1000L of water, where as a QAV could carry any amount.... (to a degree :) )

a 14 nominally carries 1000L of water, there is plenty around with only around 600-800L and then there's the national parks ones with as little as 400L, eg.

SA Firefighter General / Re: Paid CFS firefighters
« on: July 29, 2006, 02:50:35 PM »
the idea could have some merit (although would be politcally difficult) but before that happened I personally would rather see either, or both of the following: (a) a paid admin person to do all the paperwork, (b) paid group officer(s).

So, the Pumper will run one 38mm line (2xBA) inside to the bottom story for a VERY quick primary search, one 34 will gain access (2xBA+1x38mm) [....]

I noticed a couple of you said the BA guys take a 38mm line in with them.  Wouldn't a 25mm be sufficient and easier to carry/manhandle?

6 jobs, a fatal, all is well in this part of the hills  :|

Edit: The freeway RCR was two jobs, hooray.

and no fog or rain, it's a mystery!

SA Firefighter General / Re: Where do we draw the line
« on: July 25, 2006, 01:18:50 PM »
I think the issue with Burnside Car 1 was that it was sinking, with crew on board, and the group control centre wouldn't respond any help to them because they said CFS trucks weren't allowed to tow... We can tell the service has turned to S*^*7 when we're not even allowed to rescue our fellow firefighters.. :(

2 points:
1) the group base does not make the decisions just passes them on from the incident controller / operations officer.
2) that incident with burnside car 1 during the floods was a little more complicated than has been written here, there were good reasons why that decision that was made (obviously!).

regarding towing, I think some of you need to read the rules a bit more carefully, it doesn't say "no towing" fullstop.  Towing someone's private car with an appliance is a lot more dodgy than towing another appliance on the fireground, for example.

I think you will find that you can get a GRN page up to 100 150 km over the border,I do a run for work into Victoria on a Monday and my pager has gone off in Hamilton,Portland and Horsham..

just over the border maybe, but in general no, certain people are able to get their pager messages diverted to SMS on their mobile though.

Country Fire Service / Re: election time
« on: July 21, 2006, 01:30:54 PM »
well i guess the whinge is about him getting 4 votes and 4 votes going to (new GO :?). Same happend last group election.

voting is not that simple, each candidate is supposed to be knocked out one by one leaving a "winner".  That's how our group election was done as chaired by the RC.

PS. sometimes I think some of things posted here about specific people are pretty borderline.

574
will you receive the message when your pager is back within range or switched on again. Or is the message is lost & you will never receive the message.

as others have said, the answer is no for GRN pagers.  Most commercial paging services offer the facility for you to ring a phone number and have your messages read back to you but I would expect such a service is not practical to offer for the GRN.

It has always been tankers and if you go changing the name to BWC then other CFS affiliated services ...

it's already happened, about a year ago or thereabouts.
