MFS: RESPOND To 27/02/06 20:34,SARGENT PDE,BELLEVUE HEIGHTS, MAP 154 C 10 ,,ASSIST PUBLIC,4624*CFSRES:

believe it or not.. this response from MFS Comms was to extricate (im trying to make it sound more important) a kite from a tree for a memebr of public...

so this means next time im out flying a kite (bear with me..) and it gets stuck in a tree.. i ring triple zero and ask for the fire service?

mmm well if id been in charge of that truck and been told i was "extricating" a kite from a tree when i came up on air.. then i would have refused to respond. mis-usee of the service...

be interested if someone with some more background on this call could enter into this..?

Member of public was a young boy, maybe 10 or 12, with his mother. we arrived, and after a quick look it was decided to use the ladder and a ceiling hook to remove the  kite from the tree, about 7 or 8 meters up.

only took 15 minutes, and, in my opinion, it was good Public Relations for the service.

thanks for the insight steve..

but what was the general opinion of all the crew? complete misuse of the fire service and fire service equipment IMO...
anybody else got an opinion on "special service" calls like this?

Id like to know whythey called 000 for a kite?  Sure it is good PR work, but what went through their head that made them call 000 :?

Was reading an article from SAMFS pdf magazine about a MFS crew that repeatedly got called to rescue the same cat from the same lady from the same roof top.  It was holding them up from their roast (poor fella's :-P) so one bloke told the old lady that her cat was a very special breed of climbing cat that is bred to climb up there.  It worked and they got home to their roast.  anyway enough of my rambling, out.

Often people don't know who to call, so they ring 000 for advice. The 000 operators don't know who to call either, so they respond the fire service.
We once got called to an old lady who was worried that the rising salt damp was going to short out her light switch... :|

Gawler (station 35) only has one appliance, (359), however its possible they responded further MFS appliances for extra equipment, or because they were bored.. :P

Doubt they would have needed another appliance, had 3 CFS and their pumper is a rescue also.  COuldnt hav responded Elizabeth cause they would ahve been doing a COQ for a rubbish fire near Gawler.  UNless Gawler do have 2, got 2 bays.

isnt it your brigade PF? (concordia) do some asking..

but from what i know i believe SOCC would have meant 2x MFS appliances. yea 35 only has the pump rescue, but could have ahd attendance by one of 33s as well, or perhaps MFS requested 204 if it was confirmed entrapment and they felt it was required.

Could be wheat, corn.. ? Who knows..

Code red is level of prepardness.. eg...  How many staff are in the SOCC centre, *group bases being manned * all that kind of stuff.. MEans the conditions are bad..

FDI is Fire Danger Index..  Which is mathematically calculated..

Over 50 means Total Fire ban is declared.. TFB.

Well - just maybe the group management looked out and saw that it would be better for the fire fighters protection. After all as the Group who dragged CFS out of overalls and calf length boots, I'm sure their culture (underlying and at brigade level) is to ensure the fire fighters have the best!

Don't tarnish many, many great fire fighters by the actions of a few at Group Level!

Whoops - forgot - this is becoming a bash others posting forum now though isn't it??? :? :?
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to control it.

from where do you get that group bases are to be manned?
(not saying you're wrong, would just like to read the SOP/COSO that says that)
