Noticed the following pager messages today:

10:14:44 28-04-06 SHQ: *CFSRES: GLOSSOP AND MONASH RESPOND CAR BOGGED IN A FLOODED AREA. J C SMITH AND GELLETT RD BERRI < 28/04/2006 10:14:34 AM

10:17:52 28-04-06 MFS: RESPOND Flooding/Salvage 28/04/06 10:15,BERRI SES,BERRI, MAP 0 A 0 ,,GELLETT AND JC SMITH DVE BERRI ,CAR IN FLOODED AREA NO CONTACT DETAILS AVAILABLE,73929*CFSRES:

From an outsider to the incident, my first thought is that three local (Berri SES, Glossop & Monash CFS) emergency vehicles are going to bogged car.

I understand other issues could exist, which are not given on the pager messages, can increase the urgency (eg fast moving water moves car, life risk of people near car, bystanders, etc) but is this an overkill ?

At face value it would seem like overkill..... but always keep in the back of your mind that we dont have local knowledge, and things arnt always as they seem.

Would need to hold a lottery to see who would be the poor person to get wet

Must be very wet in the riverland today. I think four pager messages dispatched regards flooding this morning.

Yes it would seem that we should get more info before saying a over kill. I hear SES where already out pumping water for flood, water was up to the middle of the door of the car, ther was also other places needing pumping. they had over 44mm of rain for them this is a lot.

Had a dual response with the SES the other week to a tree down. Funny thing is the call was in MFS area. Dont know why we got responded as the MFS were'nt busy at the time (Both appliances still in station)

May be MFS gave you the job to keep your call rate up....Or it was a tree job so send them.....

Maybe Mets Were Already Covering For Another Area While They Were Out? Or They Didnt Want To Go To A Tree Down.

I doubt the fireys in the station had any choice about whether they responded or not...

Its surprising that they responded CFS into their area though... I always thought they hated the thought of having to do that...

I've noticed that MFS have been dual responding SES and CFS to all tree jobs... is this really necessary? Especially in the areas where the CFS will be leaving by the time the SES get there (purely because of the travel distance)... Or is this perhaps something SES have requested?

Yes because it is an "SES job", and god forbid they respond only the closest and most appropriate resource....

had an interesting occurence the other night when we rocked up to an RCR we had been paged to to find the local SES boys had self responded to it also... what the???

very true... i remember a few incidents up the hill like that...

ahh the doors dont go up automatically anymore so thats no longer an issue...
