Radio stations for 2006 fire season broadcasts
« on: October 09, 2006, 01:37:01 PM »
Will a FM radio station be used for official Fire Incident warning messages during 2006/07 season ?

Last year I believe Nova FM was advertised, but personally I did not think this worked as reliably as the ABC AM station.

But many portable radio receivers (MP3 players, walkmans, mobile telephones, etc) only receive FM radio.

My personal opinion only.

The CFS use AM stations as traditional bush fire warning messages broadcaters bajdas but down here in the Lower South East (Wattle Range,Gambier,Lucindale and so on)do have FM stations which are also used for broadcasting bushfire fire warnings

Heres some of them AM/FM radio stations that are used in the South East to broadcast bushfire warnings

107.7 5THEFM
96.1 StarFM
963 5SE
1161 ABC South East

Also you will find that bushfire warning messages are broadcast on 27MHz & UHF CB Radio bands too

Plus it varies on each town, area or district and whats the most active/closest radio station for example Radio 5SE is heard right around the South East right up to Coonalpyn being it operates on the AM Band thats why its used as one of the bushfire warning stations

At the time you will find all stations will broadcast the warnings for the benefit of the listening public, rather than just a few select ones

Never heard that last year... I didn't even hear a warning on Nova...
Its all very well for them to go wild when Ash Wednesday 3 hits, but if we rely on "all stations warning the listening public" for every fire, we are seriously deluding ourselves...

Well today confirms it. BWM issued for Port Lincoln, nothing heard on Nova until the 11:00 news, and that was just a general newsy type story - not a bushfire warning message. Go the ABC i say.

Believe CFS has agreements with Media agencies for broadcast!

Different in all areas, due to coverage and also the listening audience! With the execption of the ABC, how cover SA wide
