Fire Fighter Training / Re: sprinkler/hydrant booster systems
« on: May 09, 2006, 09:42:04 PM »
Just a thought.... bit out of the square.  Why should the SACFS or MFS  be responsible for supplying pumps to boost a sprinkler system. Why not have owners of such buildings install at time of construction on site stand alone booster pumps?

some buildings in town do have there own pumps eg state lib building and all buildings along that side of north tce, (this is fact as i worked there in the past) the pumps kick in as soon as the pressure drops in the system and drops the bells there and at SAMFS HQ

what do people think of the step under ther rear of the crew cab??

in my opition they are crap compeared to the style of say the first 24p's, the step are smaller and sit to far under ther cab.

on the 24p's they are wider sit out from the cab a bit move( leverl with the wheel arch) and you can STEP out of the truck on the the step.

witht the new 34 no such luck i think it could be a oh&s issue but i could be wrong......

« on: April 14, 2006, 01:53:59 AM »
hey all
i few points for you all to think about when talking about alarms and the BEST kind to put in to your station.
I'm a security officer and i have worked with almost all types of security system.

this fob system is all well and good , one swipe your in station alarms off all good right, first of all what happens when you loss your fob key and don't report it for x amount of days, in that time Jo blow has picked up the key gone in to the station and cleaned it out and no one knows till the next fire call. i yes the key can be disabled but first you have to notice it is missing.......

coded pad alarms also have there problems they all do
but at least if you loss your key the alarm will go off and notify you. yes you could forget your code but i personally would prefer to respond to the station to an alarm activation to find some nob has forgoten his/her code then to go to station for call to find Jo blow has been to station used key he found on street and cleaned out your station and no alarm had gone off wouldn't you?

don't get me wrong there are good and bad things to all types of systems. so just think about how easy it is for members to get in, it would be just as easy for the wrong people to use the system against us

my thoughts only does not reflect my station or any other members thoughts

if anyone wants to ask me any questions about systems feel free or even via email if you wish

we have a security system at our station, it hooked into to all pagers, and alarm company - who calls duty officer,

when activated, normal message tone( not tone 7) any who is avaliable is to responed, and await for atleast 2 people to turn up the investigate, every member who has a key has a defferent code which is loged.

Personally, I would leave it to the volunteer and save the budget money for more equipment & training resources. Let the paid MFS continue to provide primary response to fire and RCR.

it does noy cost mfs that much more to cut up a tree that is on the road/house/ fence where ever,

they still are paying there fireys the same when they are asleep at station or on a job, all it would cost them is the fuel to run the chain saw and the truck,

the government would have to pay that no matter who they send .
i thnik if it is in there area get them out of bed to do the job

"Ah, but were you invited or just rock up with the 34"

yes we were invited we do nt respond appliances to jobs unless they are our area - in the case it was not so the only time it would have gone was if it was invited.

when the tanker was responded, and again I say, Pumping appliance, 34's do not rate as pumping appliances,

and who said 34  was a pumping appliacne???
