SAMFS / Gawler covering Kapunda
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:55:50 AM »
I hear that Gawler are now covering Kapunda as Kapunda MFS are struggling to get crews. For those who don't know where Kapunda is, it's about a 20-25 minute drive from Gawler :-o

SA Firefighter General / Re: CFS using K-codes
« on: January 26, 2011, 08:43:11 PM »
An example of the CFS using k codes would of been last night

Both Roseworthy appliances, 34P & 24P responded to an incident around midnight last night. As you do, they both individually notified adelaide fire that they were responding to the incident. Half an hour later, they were paged to respond to an RCR in Hewett, which 359 were also called to. The issue was that they were still at the first incident (and hadn't notified they had finished their first incident 'cos they hadn't) and had to release one of their appliances to the RCR and then call for assistance from other brigades to assist in the first incident. Maybe if they were allowed to use K codes, Adelaide fire would of known they couldn't respond to the RCR and they would of sent another brigade to assist 359. What happens if the first incident was a k99 and then they were asked to attend a RCR with confirmed entrapments around the same time?

And a K code would have fixed that issue how....?

Pip

Didn't say it would fix it, just saying that if CFS used K codes they would be able to let Adelaide fire know when they are K3 or transmit a K44 when a sitrep becomes available so they know when they are available if another incident come up in their area like last night

SAAS / SAAS Funding Cutbacks
« on: January 14, 2011, 11:11:45 AM »
FUNDING cutbacks are stripping ambulance workers of resources, leaving patients in danger, the Ambulance Employees Association has warned.
Frontline ambulance workers have backed the warning, saying the cuts will leave them under-prepared to deal with high-stress scenarios.

The South Australian Ambulance Service has announced the first round of "disestablishments" to ambulance officers.

An officer, who did not want to be named, said 11 support positions had already been slashed and more were expected in the coming months.

"We are concerned, because a lot of the drugs we administer can only be given with a doctor's approval, and there are now no doctors specifically assigned to us," he said.

"For example, if we need to administer penicillin to a child with meningococcal, we need permission.

"I am not sure what we are supposed to do now. I suppose they intend us to call a doctor and hope they are reachable."

Ambulance Employees Association industrial officer Wayne Carty said he was concerned the staffing cutbacks would have an impact on their service. "While the staffing cuts were not to frontline officers, they still will have a measurable impact on overall patient care," Mr Carty said.

"Whatever functions are cut, it will inevitably lead to a reduction in services. If you remove people who assist the officers . . . quality care could suffer."

He said the cuts in the rostering department could lead to inconsistent rosters, causing tired and stressed ambulance workers.

SAAS chief executive Ray Creen said the department was committed to maintaining a high standard of patient care and restructuring management and administrative services would not affect this.

"There is no reduction in frontline positions and the recently revised clinical governance structure provides a much larger network of doctors and other medical professionals who can offer medical advice and oversight," he said.

In November, the Government revealed 947 health-sector jobs would be cut over four years as part of its plan to save $2 billion from the public sector.

Country Fire Service / Removing members from the books
« on: January 06, 2011, 05:08:17 PM »
I heard a rumour that the CFS wants to remove members who don't appear at training within a period of 1 month off the books. Can any one shed any light on this?

A solution to the problem would be to ban smoking. Other government buildings have no smoking so why does the Remand Centre have to be different :?

Apparrently they allow them to smoke to relieve stress. I mean honestly, they deserve to be stressed, they're in their for a reason

« on: December 06, 2010, 04:43:29 PM »
There was a segment on seven news on the amount of turnouts the MFS are having to the remand centre.
Apparently, no prisoners are being punished and a solution to correct the problem is that next week they're going to move smoke alarms to different locations

Mudla Wirra's area mate. There station is actually part of the campus. More interesting would be the lack of a rescue on the initial page.

Thanks Alex. But i've noticed that private alarms at the campus are responded by roseworthy and muddla wirra, hence why i'm quering why roseworthy werent responded and muddla wirra were called on a second page. I don't believe woolsheds are a rescue unit
