Country Fire Service / Re: Training Course Nominations
« on: July 13, 2011, 10:19:01 PM »
With your BA Q Alex, I would suggest the Brigade had the spot due to being below min SFEC so it is usual for Brigades to fill the spot with one of their own if the nominated person cannot attend. I know I did this back in my BTC  and GTC days with all courses. The Regions don't mind as long as if the Brigade can't fill it themselves that they let STC know ASAP so there is not a mad scramble to fill the spot just days out. I know the last BA course ran full but there were 10 changes of nominations in the week leading upto it, which meant a lot of work by staff and vollies to make sure it did run full.

Or the weak link brought to account, or get someone else into the role who will do it

You cannot nominate from the website, you need to go throught the chain of command i.e. BTC, GTC, RTO. From experice of preforming all of these role at times that any breakdown in communication will result in people missing out on oppertunities. I know I have certainly asked down the chain for nominations for the courses you are after Alex without any luck. Use the website to find spaces and then hammer your BTC, GTC to get your nomination to region. Your nomination should appear in your members profile once it reaches Region, even if you are not allocated to a course i.e. Pending. Also if you do get on a course and things change let the region/STC know straight away to allow more time to refill the place.

So in other words, resources aren't really being "tracked" on turnouts.
Not actively, anyway.  The info isn't being used in Wakefield St to amend
responses to subsequent turnouts.

While Adelaide Fire may or may not track resources, and I'll leave that comment up to people like Alex who work there, If units book mobile via Adelaide fire at least those managing incidents can see on CRIIMSON what is acknowledged and mobile rather than guessing what has responded. With more and more groups being trained in CRIIMSON it would be good for everyone to use the same system so we can all see what's going on and if things escalate we have good information to work with rather than guess work.

1. No
2. Suppress is currently being reviewed but no plans to change terminate any FGP's, maybe some clarifications and changes to OMG's and COSO's due to the Vic interm report (Especially in protect people).
3. Updated Version of BF1 is almost ready to release but there are no changes to FGP's which is where BF1 gets it's practices from, so not sure what you mean there.
4. a Standard Rural Appliance from what I understand would be a what ever the SFEC stated the Brigade required 14/24/34. Mind you, not sure I have ever seen a "standard" CFS appliance ever.
5. Policy is if it is an approve piece of equipment and it breaks, fix it!

We have just clicked over 817 BFF1's individual completions for the financial year so there is more a problem as mentioned before about retention than the length of the BFF1. Well in my opinion anyway.....

CFS Cadet Corner / Re: what is going on with cadets?
« on: May 20, 2009, 01:58:44 PM »
Think you would find that Cadets would fall under the same rules as non BA trained members in what they can/cannot do with BA. ie no actual drilling, just don/doffing. Then there is the issue of needing to be 18 for BA as well. Yet another can of worms

The main focus of the Tele-con was to plan how best to protect our fire-fighters if the PANDEMIC hits Aust. So I see it as very relevant. Gee bashed if you don't plan bashed if you do

What's wrong with being a hick :-D be careful Zippy, quite a few AWS recorded FDI's over 100 last Saturday. Looking at the drought factor index and the soil moisture index we are not out of the woods yet.

Don't know why they were told that. There were 4 new staff put on in Oct 07 (myself included) 3 of us are Lt's and one was a captain. Only the guy who was a captain had to step down, the rest of were told that our positions were fine.
