SAMFS / Re: Gawler covering Kapunda
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:10:44 PM »
the clostest 2 appliances ie respons for an alarm are kapunda CFS and MFS. then I would assume Roseworthy or hamley bridge CFS, Both of these brigades which are able to respond to AFAs.

SAMFS have a legislated responsibility to deal with emergencies in a SAMFS area.  Even if they respond a CFS appliance with a full and competent crew, SAMFS still has legal responsibility for that incident, so it's in their interest to make sure they have an appliance there.

If it's a confirmed fire and they need to upgrade it though, I would hope that "closest most appropriate resource" takes precedence.

As for CFS using them....as Pip says, because many CFS types don't use a radio often (or if they do its a CB type), they struggle with basic RT skills. Making it more complicated isnt a wise move - some struggle with plain language

If we're working on the theory that "if most volunteers can't get their heads around it we should do it", then we may as well drop Rescue and Hazmat and Compartment Fire, and all those other more complex things we need to learn...

just sayin'

So stations are now called brigades, and the Fire Brigades are now called F&R NSW?  I bet that's going to be a culture shock for the old timers!

Are they still calling it a Brigade(s) or is it a Service?

Any one know what happened?

I believe she was found to have some infection so extra precautions needed to be taken.

Commercial fire detection systems often have heat detectors in the ceiling space, but as Alex said, they're not common in domestic set ups.

10 people per brigade is a bit much to ask these days, not without affecting normal turnouts, not to mention from a VERY busy group!

It's probably worth noting that the page said "up to 10" not "a minimum of 10".  I'm sure brigades didn't feel that each had to supply 10 people...

If you are talking about the volunteer review, already happening & fully announced. If not, then fishing lines are stupid unless you care to elaborate  :-(

What's the volunteer review about?

Do you remember how long the battery backup lasts?

might that not be delicate information best left off a public forum?

Fair call.  Disregard the question!

Interesting.. quite a few trucks closer than them?

I believe they were nearby after a previous incident at Hahndorf?

Often is.  Is Barker34P allowed to go so far out of the area

Why wouldn't it be?

Who do you need to speak to sms pages?  And what conditions are placed on who can?
Are you in the CFS?  If so, talk to your brigade comms officer, or the group comms officer.  They need to fill in a M01 form, but different groups have different setups as to who does this stuff.

Other option can they email them instead?
Yes, this option is also on the M01 form.

ATM since I have no reception at work I have a script that scapes the sacfs paging site looking for what I want to know about and either just get an email or forward it out our sms gateway depending on what it is.  Works ok (well it did before site changed the formatting and I haven't got around to fixing it), but it generates a false results, it's delayed, and chews a fair bit of data.
The old feed is still available at http://paging.sacfs.org/feed1/public.php :)

You mean other than the official GRN one?

...hopefully they haven't gone the money saving option, as how can you make a tin shed cheaper !

Knowing CFSHQ, I'm sure they'll find a way.  I guess you could do away with a concrete floor and just have bare earth, or maybe have a wooden frame and staple some Hessian around it for walls?

"Equipment carried on a typical fire appliance includes: Hoses and Nozzles..."

What happened to calling them "Branches"?  Did that go out the window when we started calling all our appliances "Tankers"?
