Its 1314 on a Tuesday.

You are turned out to an AFA showing fire, at a 2 level residential block. The building is of brick, tile and concrete construction. 14 units total, 7 per floor. It has a secure underground car parking compound.

You are in a 34P with a crew of 4, 4xBA Trained.

You have a second brigade 10 minutes away in a 24P with 2x BA on board. They are responding.

You arrive to find no smoke issuing, the FIP showing alarm, west hallway, level 2. There are 9 people outside, having self evacuated upon the alarm activating. They are unable to provide any information about possible occupants. They report a strong smell of burning and light smoke at the end of the 2nd floor western hallway, near unit 14.

There is stair and elevator access to the second floor.

There is a 2in-2out Hydrant booster system for the building. It has internal hose reels, and external pillar hydrants. There is also a Sprinkler booster system for the underground carpark.

As per SOP's, upgrading to a 2nd Alarm will get you two more appliances, at least one being BA. It would probably also arouse some interest by your GO.

raise to 2nd alarm sent first BA team in to quickly search ground floor for any non evacuated people and get an idea of the layout of the upper story. The moment the 24p arrives or is heard send all BA upstairs team  up stairs. What do they

how can it be near unit 26? when there are only 14 units? Question only.

often in multi floored buildings the units first number is the floor so unit 26 is floor 2 unit 6 to assist in finding them so i am thinking this is how it works

ok my 2 ba teams have begun searching the 2nd floor and have reached the unit 14 enter and extinguish with the 2 38mm running off the boosted system. they then over hall and clean up.

Firstly due to the fact its a multi-storey building with a confirmed fire reported a automatic 2nd Alarm response.

First arrival crews and OIC go to the FIP checking alarmed area details,and the first two BA operators with radio attend to the second floor taking some firefighting media with them ie High Rise Kit utilising the internal hydrant system with a charged 38mm line to check Unit 26 for any sign of fire.OIC would send a sitrep back to the station,and also nominate a staging area at the incident for incoming appliances.

The OIC would liase with a Fire Warden or one of the persons evacuated,to determine how many people are likely to be in the building.Second BA crew standby on second floor for backup/rescue, and assist the first BA crew on arrival of incoming crews with BA to back them up,with other BA crews on standby in case the incident escalates any further.

Would this be a fluoro ballast causing the alarm?

Don't forget there are no internal hydrants.

Its not fluro ballast... but only light smoke, grey/white in colour is found in the hallway outside the unit.
