I think vincent will be getting his rear kicked for what he has said and may be it is about time that marker did call for back up and use what is in your group..Last time I looked your rescue was a type two pumper so what is your problem........

The fact that its our dedicated RESCUE appliance, hence the RESCUE callsign. If it is committed at a job where a pumper is required and a RCR is required, backup is a fair while away, and like all volunteer brigades there's no guarantee its coming either.

It's a hard thing...I agree if you only take a handful from each group but also factor in the unavailability of others due to harvest, holidays etc...you could easily leave yourself short staffed and then when they return they are too  tired to be avail for a couple of days as well...

It's been hard/easy for us in Region 6 as we are so far away...and we probably get grace for the hard time during Black tuesday...saying that though, we did send a strike team to Waikerie a couple of weeks ago..

I've personally been on strike teams but am not that keen this season...not yet anyway...

PS it's RAINING here today...yes RAINING>...can't remember the last time it RAINED!!  :-D

Rain?? What's Rain??

Our Brigade did the same thing. We also had other community organisations who regularly do traffic control join in. Now everyone is singing off the same page. Still haven't seen the certs from SAPOL yet :x

SAPOL were meant to send us certs for a clan lab recognition workshop, I think it takes them a while with certificates... That was in August and we're still waiting!

[Edit: Cause me type good]

It didn't handle like a car......

Strange that... An appliance that doesn't handle like something tonnes lighter with the wheels in a different spot...

We are all supposed to be a part of the TEAM :-D

Be that as it may, somehow I think that if this decision were ever made it would end in a mutiny.

I think the word you're looking for there is actually homicide, not mutiny
Nah, the person who made the final decision would get the "black spot" , treasure island style

« on: December 08, 2006, 06:10:35 AM »
Its a pain cause its hard to find ANY gear in my size, let alone get something temporary for the time until my PBI gold comes in. Unfortunately what comes off the trauma teddies isn't actually Nomex, or I could almost borrow that!

One of our other guys did BA 9 months ago, rumour had it that Lion didn't have his sizing. Apparently they do, there's just a massive demand for the gear!

Just to make a positive comment, I will quite happily attend ANY strike team where Onkaparinga group have control of logistics... After working hard, really good food makes a nice end to the day!

Organization and strategy. Unfortunately common sense isn't as common as one would hope, which is reflected quite clearly in large operations.

hey... as i haven't been in the CFS that long i haven't been able to pick up why the CFS and the SES don't get along??

can someone please enlighten me :? :? :?

A word of advice, just disreagard all information on this web site regarding SES, CFS, SAAS and SAPOL. And go out there and form your own opinions, dont listen to any of the crap most people spout.

Touche. It is a load of tribal poo... If there's a problem somewhere it probably goes way back to something tiny that has been blown out of proportion...

Depends on the town... In some cases one resource doesn't treat emergencies like emergencies and take around 45 minutes to respond, P1 and get in the way when they get there, others its simple tribalism and insecurity. Pretty much the same reasons some brigades dont get along, though add the competition factor of another emergency service into it.

jeez louise, thats not very good any pics?

Only mobile phone quality, but will see what I can do..

We're all ok, just another argument as to why it would make a better artificial reef than an appliance.. Had we been actually moving at freeway speed at that point it could have been worse..

Any issue that upsets someone needs to be 'checked out' and the volunteer with the issue assisted. How else do we keep trained volunteers within SES or CFS.

SAFECOM Volunteer Management Services have setup 'Volunteer Harassment Contact Officers' around the state from both services.

Calling the 1300 364 587 will give you a CONFIDENTIAL referral to another trained volunteer.

The volunteer you talk to will not be part of your original brigade or unit. Everything is confidential while they assist in the problem.

This service is available to all CFS & SES volunteers.

At least SOMEONE learned something from Workplace Dignity...  :-P

FRESH Nitrile Gloves
Smoke Rag
Goggles
Pencil & Pad
Eikhorn Rescue Knife
Wildfire Gloves
Couple of Barley Sugars

Only have Level 1 PPE at this point, so flash hood and the like would be fairly pointless

Talking to a mate.....

Apparently one of the main reasons females not partaking is due to hygiene..... I can see the reasoning....

I've also heard this from mates... Apparently females are far easier to track because we tend to leave behind a ... fair bit more evidence in certain situations. Can all be rectified if required, and you'd hope due to common sense it would be.

« on: November 01, 2006, 01:38:19 PM »
Its a call for help man, don't be so callous.

As a wise person once said, there are 3 types of firefighter:

Those who are in it to help out
Those who like their name in lights
Those who love the thrill of the chase

If you don't love it, and don't like helping people, then why are you really with the service? Its all part of the gig.

SA Firefighter General / Re: I'M SAFE
« on: October 29, 2006, 03:23:47 PM »
What do people think about this checklist???

Am I fit to attend this incident?

The I’M SAFE
CHECKLIST

M – Medication – Am I under the effect of any medication?

If you’re NOT fit to go,
It’s OK to say “NO”!

I would hope that some of the people ARE under the effect of their medication...otherwise, for many, there is no point in taking their medication, if it doesn't control whatever it is they are taking their medication for.

And before anyone starts saying those people shouldn't be on the fireground, there are many people who take medication for a diagnosed condition, which is appropriately dealt with by medication, and as a result, are able to work safely on the fireground........

You don't necessarily know those people take medication, because it doesn't pose a problem for them, or others!!

Pip

I think what they're talking about in this case is things like  cold and flu medication which contain antihisthamines and psuedoephidrine, things that affect the mental state, as well as the body's ability to function... Have you ever seen "Do not drive or operate heavy machinery" on packs? Call me crazy, but I would consider an appliance, and most things on one as heavy machinery. I can't imagine being on scene at an incident after tranquilizers, heavy painkillers or copious amounts of Demazin :|
